My Name:  Charles "Pete" Portal (RAF4lyf)

About Me:  Well I take it pretty easy in my old age, but back in the day I was a war hero in the British RAF! (Royal Air Force) I guess i'll share my life story since I'm an old fart with nothing better to do.  I was born May 21, 1893 in Hungerford, England and that's where I grew up. My dad's name is Edward Robert Portal and my mom is Ellinor Kate.  When I was younger I went to Winchester and Christ Church, Oxford for college to study law.  I really always wanted to be a barrister, but in 1914 I felt I should enlist as a private soldier.  In 1915 they transferred me to the Royal Flying Corps where I had to spend a while observing before I flew.  Eventually I reached lieutenant colonel and earned the Military Cross.  In April of 1918 I became an officer in the new Royal Air Force, following the Royal Flying Corps' merger with the Royal Naval Air Service.  After that horrible war was over, I took over No. 7 Squadron RAF where I worked on improving our bombing accuracy so we could be more effective in taking out those pesky Germans!  After World War 2 started I was appointed commander-in-chief of Bomber Command.  Winston Churchill apparently thought pretty highly of my strategies and I was knighted :D For most of World War 2 I was commanding bombing. In June 1944 I was promoted to marshal of the Royal Air Force.  In March 1945, Mr. Churchill gave his final order to stop area bombing after the firestorm of Dresden that happened a few weeks earlier.  In 1945, after my 31 years of service with the British and the end of the war, it was time for me to say goodbye to the RAF.  I moved back to Hungerford and became Baron Portal of Hungerford in the County of Berks.  A year later I became Viscount Portal of Hungerford in the same area and was very excited about that.  The rest of my life has just been takin' it easy...besides a battle here and a new chairman position there ;)

My Interests: Strategic Bombing, Law, the RAF, Ellinor Kate ;)

My Heroes: Winston Churchill; he was a virtuous leader and a great friend.  We went to every conference together! Ellinor Kate; my wife!

My Favorite Saying:  I've never really said anything important, but here are some of my favorite quotes from others!  "Difficulties mastered are opportunities won."  "A joke is a very serious thing."  "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject."  -Winston Churchill

Good thing you were in the air and on your pittiful little island because if you were on the ground my tanks could swim you would have had a really bad head-ach
