MINNESOTA

 

Minnesota the "North Star State", was the 32th state in the USA, and became a state in 1858.

"Minnesota" comes from the Dakota Indian words meaning "sky-tinted water" or, "Land of Sky-Blue Waters"

 

 

State bird: Common Loon

                           State Flower: Pink and white lady's slippers

State Tree:  Norway pine

  State song: Hail Minnesota

 

 

LOCATION:

Absolute Location - 93'N, 45'W

Relative Location - Near lake superior, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Michigan, Nabraska, Minnesota River, and Mississippi River

is the most important river, because they use it for transportation.

The capital is St. Paul. The major cities are:  Mineapolis, the twin cities, Duluth, St. Paul, Rochester, Bloomington, and Brooklyn Park.

 

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

The landform is rocky, rolling hills, and plains.

The Climate is hot. The highest temperature ever recorded was 114' F. The lowest was 60'F.

 

 

HUMAN CHARACTERISTICS:

The Language they speek here is mainly English but the speak some Spanish too.

The economy in agriculture are: dairy products, corn, cattle, soybeans, hogs, wheat, turkeys. The industry economy is: Machinery, food processing, printing and publishing, fabricated metal products, electric equipment, mining, tourism.

The major universities are: Winona State University, DeVry University, University of St. Thomas, University of Phoenix, University of Minnesota, Bemidji State University, and the University of Minnesota Duluth

 

 

 

 

COMPARE/ CONTRAST:

My state is different then the others around it because it doesnt have the same state bird as any of them. 

 

MOVEMENT:

People here get around by airports, and highways. The aiports they use are listed below. The highways are: I35, I94, I90.

There are 156 airports in Minnesota. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is one of the buisiest airports in minnesota.

The other airports here are:  Duluth, the Falls, the Rochester, Thief River Falls, Crookston, Bemidji, Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Grand Marais, Fergus Falls, Alexandria, St. Cloud, Benson, Willmar, Redwood Falls, Faribault, New Ulm, Mankato, Owatonna, Rochester, Austin, Jackson, Fairmont and Worthington.

 

 

IMPACT:

One of the environmental disasters here was the collapse of I-35w bridge. Wich was on August 1, 2007. They haven't found out exactly how many people died, because the number is changing every day.
