Rudolph Hess

About Me: My name is Rudolph Hess. I was born on April 26, 1894, and moved to Germany when I was 18 years old. I served in World War I in the infantry. After a chest wound I was not allowed to return to the front lines. I then transferred to the Imperial Air Corps. In May of 1920 I heard Adolf Hitler speak. After hearing his words I became completely devoted to him. I felt as though overcome by a vision. I joined the Nazi party July 1, 1920. After the failed attempt to sieze control of Germany, Hitler and I were imprisoned. Here Hitler wrote the book Mein Kempf which I had the pleasure of helping with. After serving our time in prison I became Hitler's personal assistance. In 1939 I was appointed to become Hitler's successor after Goring. I want no power, I just want to serve Hitler. Only serve Hitler...

     I lost to Martin Bormann as Hitler's eventual successor. I've noticed Hitler has been distancing himself from me. I have to do something, anything to redeem myself. Anything... I know! I will fly to Germany on a "peace" mission! Surely Hitler will be proud of me after this.

      I was arrested by the British and declared mentally insane! Mentally insane? Me? No... I just want to serve Hitler, just serve Hitler... Churchill sentenced me to be imprisoned as a POW (prisoner of war). Claiming me to be crazy.

     This jail is no place for me. Some call me crazy, I don't see it? I simply enjoy intellectual conversations and the only one here capable of this would be me. So why not talk to myself? I'm not crazy... I'm not crazy. My food... they've poisoned it, I know it! Every single one of them are against me! I know they are! My only friend here is the warden, Eugene K. Bird, whom I've become close to. Even Hitler has declared me insane... I am still loyal to him. He has put away his greatest worshipper, his only TRUELY devoted follower.

     Today I am to go on trial. I sit by Goring, the second successor to Hitler. I envy him. He interrupts my conversation with myself by asking to be moved away from me! In the end, I was to be sentenced to life. How did it come to this...

     I am 93 years old, it is August 17, 1987. I can no longer live in this world... today I will join my supreme leader, Adolf Hitler.

 "It has granted me for many years to live and work under the greatest son whom my nation has brought forth in the thousand years of its history. Even if I could I would not expunge this period from my existence. I regret nothing. If I were standing once more at the beginning I should act once again as I did then, even if I knew that at the end I should be burnt at the stake?"
